Accreditation Study Club

Dr. LeSage shares his years of clinical experiences in the field of esthetic dentistry with this intimate group of highly motivated participants. He earned his accreditation status in 1994 and was invited to be an AACD Examiner in 1996. Dr. LeSage has served yearly as an examiner, and is presently one of the longest standing, active examiners. He has also served as the Fellowship Chair from 2004 – 2013.

Course Description

Dr. LeSage is uniquely qualified to aid you in becoming the next Accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

On-going SIX day program occurring every 5-8 weeks. Open discussion and dialogue amongst the group concerning their own potential cases and facilitation by Dr. LeSage will occur.

Session One: Starts with a brief overview of the Accreditation Process and Credential. Emphasis will be on case selection, photography and formulating a plan for your successful journey to Accreditation. You will be asked to bring any cases that you have started, think might be a good case for accreditation and a case to qualify for Case Type I.

The following five sessions will each be dedicated to a Case Type as described in the Accreditation protocol. So, Session Two will cover Case Type I, Session Three will cover Case Type II, Session Four will cover Case Type III, etc.

At each Session, you will be expected to bring a potential case for that respected session and Case Type. Photographs, mounted models and any other diagnostic records will be evaluated. Feedback, tips and evaluations of the cases will be accomplished at each session. Additional information will be shared as appropriate for you to go back and finish this Case Type.

Additionally, ONE hour of phone consultation may occur between each session for further assistance through the process. Additional individual consultation can be purchased if so desired.

In-depth understanding of the AACD Accreditation Process and credential.

Work through the FIVE Case Types over five separate sessions to accomplish your mission.

Includes one-one hour phone consultation between sessions, not transferable

Can not guarantee successful passing of Accreditation

Lecture in am, followed by participants case presentations in the pm. First weekend is an overview of Accreditation and then each participant presents a Case Type I-6 Indirects before. Bring any other Case types as a back-up.

Emphasis is placed on direct composites in the esthetic zone such that every clinician can return to their offices and place seamless restorations at a higher skill level. 

Anterior Direct Bonded Restorations:

  • Discussion of best composite systems to use for anterior direct bonding
  • Step-by-step explanation of how to restore Class III, IV and V using our adhesive dentistry   techniques]

Occlusion for Everyday Practice

Learn the basic principles of occlusion and how they fit into all clinical practices. By understanding the signs of occlusal pathology, from wear to mobility to TMD symptoms, each clinician will learn the value of occlusion to long-term dental health and success of their cosmetic cases. Emphasis will be placed on diagnosis, which will help guide the appropriate management of occlusal forces in your simple restorative cases to full mouth reconstruction.

This introductory occlusion course will cover the following:
  • Simple routine test to include in all new patient exams to add value and lead to more   predictable dentistry.
  • Learn the basic terms and simple definitions to this terminology.
  • Review the most common occlusal philosophies and their indications and limitations.
  • What are the signs of occlusal pathology?
  • When is it imperative to treat occlusal pathology?
  • What is a simple test to tell when internal derangement exist and then what?
  • How to reproduce the dentition on an articulator?
  • How to do an esthetically adjusted face-bow transfer and why?
  • Centric relation and joint position as a starting point. Several methods to taking a centric   relationship bite and how to confirm its reproducibility.
  • Why equilibrate and how to perform on models and the patient?
  • Verbal skills to discuss occlusal pathology and get your patients to commit to long-term   dental health.
Over this three day course, the learning objectives will be accomplished in lecture, hands-on and over the shoulder observation.  Participants will practice taking centric relation records, confirm mounting of centric relation, equilibrate study models and fabricate an ERS appliance.

Would you like to improve your clinical dentistry? Would you like to improve your ability to communicate specific problems with patients and/or lab technicians? This hands-on course will review digital camera systems and their operations. Emphasis will be placed on the latest digital format and the appropriate camera system and components for your practice. You will learn the necessary views for clinical dental photography. Highlighted will be twelve views recommended by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry that will allow for accurate and complete diagnosis, design, and critique of your cosmetic enhancement procedures. Each participant will take the twelve views on a partner with the guidance of the instructor. Digitally, you will learn basic principles to download and integrate your clinical photographs into PowerPoint. An overview of how to e-mail, format/log, and make a simple patient preview will be covered. If you do not own, or have never used a digital intra-oral camera, this course is the beginning of a new era for you. We will supply digital cameras for you to try. If you are experienced but are looking for a consistent way to document your clinical dentistry, this course is for you; no matter what your present level. This course will provide significant insight in improving your clinical photography, which will help grow your technical skills and enhance your clinical practice.
